Gail is a New York-based, emerging artist with a background in Art History and Education. Gail is presently studying at The Art Students League with Bruce Dorfman, and independently with Sian Robertson. Gail previously studied with Martha Bloom, also at the Art Students League. Gail worked as a Museum Educator at The Cloisters and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, as an educator in the New York City school system, and as a Yoga instructor.
I create abstract mixed media sculpture using up-cycled materials, vintage found objects, and household items.
My art has been an ongoing exploration of layering colors and shapes, the interaction of negative and positive space, and the combining of 2- and 3- dimensional forms. I strive for balance, simplicity and complexity, chaos and harmony. I have been further led to experimentation with light, shadow, and movement.
Lately I have been fascinated by the possibilities of string: taut, loose, wound, woven, raw, or painted, and it's incorporation into the circular form.
